A bit about Doulas

"Doula" is an ancient Greek word meaning "someone who serves," which was adopted in the 1990s to describe a trained and experienced professional who provides consistent support to a mother or couple before, during, and after birth. It is non-clinical support in the form of emotional, physical, and informational assistance.
A birth doula focuses more specifically on pregnancy, preparing for birth, labour and birth, and immediate postpartum care.
A postpartum doula provides support to the newly formed family once the baby or babies have been born. Doulas can be hired to provide either one or both of these forms of care. The beauty of this type of care is that it can be entirely customized to suit the needs of those being supported.
